What Does Lent Mean to Me?

March 22, 2017 — During Lent, Father Peter Bisson, SJ, provincial
of the Jesuits’ English Canada Province, usually makes it a point to spend more
time with the street people he passes on his way to work.

He says this comes in part from his pilgrimage as a Jesuit
novice when he lived on the street and panhandled — and his gratitude for the
people who would stop and talk with him. “I try to pass the favor back.”

This year, Fr. Bisson is also going to spend time with Pope
Francis’ talk
to Jesuits at General Congregation 36 and the three points the pope stressed: seek consolation in the cross and resurrection; try to notice Jesus
crucified in people’s suffering; and try and do the good thing in a good
spirit.
