Fr. Leonard Chiti S.J., Provincial of the Jesuit Province of Zambia and Malawi, in Toronto
Canadian Jesuits International is proud to welcome Fr. Leonard Chiti S.J., Jesuit Provincial for Zambia and Malawi, who will be giving a conference in Toronto on July 11, 2019. Father Chiti will build on the traditional Zambian concept of the iIomba – a mysterious dragon creature often associated with malicious purposes – to discuss ecological and economic injustice in Zambia. The “dragon” (the systemic large-scale production of corn) is pitted against small farmers using various and organic agricultural practices. Their farms are ecologically and economically sustainable, offering an alternative to the destructive dragon of large-scale agribusinesses. Click here to learn more.
The Bishops of Haiti Denounce the Political Situation
In Haiti, opposition parties and several organizations called for demonstrations to demand the resignation of President Jovenel Moïse, accused by the Cour Supérieure des Comptes of being at the heart of a misappropriation of funds scheme. Angered by this situation, the bishops of the country signed a press release that denounces the country’s reality. It also condemns what is, in their eyes, the principal source of evil: “an excessive love of money.” They are deploring the endemic corruption, the catastrophic socio-economic situation and the political instability. A Summit: Jesuit Parishes and the Universal Apostolic Preferences
The Ignatian Solidarity Network is organizing a Jesuit Parish Justice Summit from September 9-11, 2019 at the Loyola Jesuit Center (Morristown, NJ). The purpose of the summit will be to share best practices, form new connections within the Jesuit network, and strategies around parish work for social justice, all inspired by the Ignatian charism. The Summit this year will be grounded in the Jesuits’ Universal Apostolic Preferences and will examine how they can be woven into parish life to form more just, spiritually grounded and vibrant communities. Youth Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha
On Saturday, June 15, young people between the ages of 18 and 35 will make a pilgrimage from Marie-Reine-du-Monde Cathedral (Montreal) to the Shrine of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha (Kahnawake). During the walk, there will be songs, prayer and moments of silence. The walk also includes a time for prayer and adoration at the Gesù. To learn more and to register, click here.

The Institute for Advanced Jesuit Studies, in cooperation with various partners, has set up the Jesuit Online Bibliography. This site is a free, collaborative, multilingual and user-friendly data base that regroups bibliographic records of recent research in Jesuit studies.
