About Us

The Jesuits of Canada have retained an outside organization, King International Advisory Group, to review all personnel and provincial files of Jesuits going back to 1950 in preparation of publicly releasing the names of all Jesuits of the province who have been credibly accused of sexual abuse of minors.

“We hear the voice of the victims of childhood sexual abuse in Canada. Lists that provide the public with information about these men are important to healing. It is the right thing for us to do in the promotion of institutional transparency and accountability, an important step to help correct the causes of the crisis,” said Fr. Erik Oland, SJ, provincial of the Jesuits of Canada. “On behalf of the Jesuits, I apologize to the victims for the deep pain caused by Jesuits in the past.”

King International Advisory Group provides independent compliance review services for many respected Canadian institutions. As of the present, the auditors have been set up with the necessary office space and equipment and the consolidation of the responsive records is largely complete. Since the project entails the manual review and scanning of thousands of documents and thorough scope of reference, we are aiming to publish a comprehensive list by January of 2021.

Their auditors will have access to all Jesuit files involving accused clergy, whether or not they were convicted or deceased at the time of their accusations, and the records generated by both the civil actions from the Spanish Indian Residential Schools and the lawsuits involving the unceded First Nations of Northern Ontario. No limitations have been placed on their access to information or conclusions.

The Jesuits of Canada Province always have and always will cooperate fully with civil authorities. It has a zero-tolerance policy regarding instances of inappropriate conduct between a Jesuit and a minor. These policies and protocols have been in place for years. They include a comprehensive set of procedures for receiving and addressing allegations of sexual abuse of minors. The policy also contemplates guidelines for reconciliation, healing, accountability, and prevention of future acts of abuse.

The Province of the Jesuits of Canada covers all 10 Canadian provinces: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Saskatchewan; as well as the three territories: Nunavut, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories. It also includes the country of Haiti.
