Happy New Year 2024!!

The team at the Office of Advancement wishes our compassionate community a year filled with hope, kindness and love. 

As we step into the new year, we find ourselves reflecting on the profound significance of January for Jesuits across the globe. The 3rd of January marks the Memorial of The Most Holy Name of Jesus.  A day that holds great importance for the Jesuits as it is their “titular” (title) feast. Ignatius of Loyola and his nine “friends in the Lord”, had pledged to follow Christ, their true leader, under the banner of the Cross, in loving service of the poor. This feast is a moment to reflect upon the desire of St. Ignatius and his first companions to serve a poor and crucified Christ by loving and taking care of the most marginalized. This desire is rooted in a divine encounter where God the Father spoke, assuring Ignatius of His favour in Rome and beseeching Jesus Christ to accept Ignatius as His servant. This transformative experience deepened St. Ignatius’ commitment to serve God and His Church.

In the wake of this vision Ignatius decided to call his new Order, Company of Jesus, and was translated in Latin as Societas Jesu – Society of Jesus in English – as stated in Pope Paul III’s Bull Regimini Militantis Ecclesiae (1540) approving the new religious Order.

The Jesuits of Canada, in keeping with the vision of St Ignatius and his first companions embody diverse ministries dedicated to seeking “God in All Things.” Your prayers and steadfast support have been instrumental in sustaining their mission, and for that, we are truly grateful.
