The sold-out Provincial’s Dinner, held on April 30, 2025, at Vaughan’s Bellvue Manor, was a wonderful evening, with proceeds going to support senior Jesuits in our infirmaries. Two men who live out Jesuit values were honored with the Magis Award 2025: His Excellency Archbishop Ivan Jurkovič, the Apostolic Nuncio to Canada, and Dr. Michael Bautista.

As a diplomat of the Holy See, Archbishop Jurkovič bridges cultures and communities and fosters dialogue in the Church and beyond. Reflecting a commitment to social teaching, he promotes solidarity, subsidiarity and respect for human dignity. He also works for justice and reconciliation on the global stage, particularly within marginalized communities.
Dr. Bautista dedicates himself to service and faith. When the province of Newfoundland withdrew all public funding for Catholic education in 1997, he helped establish St. Bonaventure’s College. Without his assistance, the Jesuit commitment to education in Newfoundland would have been lost.
Both of our Magis recipients reflect values central to the Jesuit tradition in their lives and work.
