Tribute to our elders: my edifying visit to the community in Richelieu

October 26, 2018 — I made my annual visitation to the infirmary community in Richelieu this past week. This "house of prayer" is an oasis of peace. The community is made to feel very much at home in this Oblate (OMI) house where we occupy portions of the 2nd and 5th floors. The highlight of the day is the community Eucharist just before the noon meal. All gather in the small community chapel for a Mass that is both prayerful and joyful. The preaching is excellent and one can be always assured to have some music – either sung hymns led by the superior, Jean-Guy Bilodeau or recorded contemplative music. It is always edifying to be with these men who have given their lives to serve God in the Society of Jesus and to see them, often in a diminished state, still alive with the desire to continue their mission with the ministry of prayer given to them.
