January 18, 2019 — In its most recent issue, the Relations presents a nine articles dossier that takes a critical stand on science. Distancing itself from anti-intellectualism and anti-scientific discourses typical of the "post-factual" era in which we are living, this issue takes nonetheless a critical look at sciences "which are not immune to various influences, be they powerful financial interests, political interference, or simply the social conditions in which they are produced."
In newsstands since January 11, this issue will give rise to two evenings of reflection. The first one will take place in Montreal, on January 29th, at the President-Kennedy Building (Science Faculty) of the Université du Québec à Montréal. The second will take place in Quebec City, on February 4th, at the Frédéric Back Cultural and Environmental Center. These two gatherings were organized jointly with CINBIOSE (Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Wellbeing, Health, Society and the Environment) and Quebec Friends of the Earth.
On January 15, Jean-Claude Ravet, editor-in-chief of the Relations, interviewed Mathieu Lavigne during the show Foi et turbulences. Anthropologist Gilles Bibeau, professor emeritus of the University of Montreal and member of the Relations’ editorial board, accompanied him. They presented a summary of the topics addressed in this issue.
