Professor and Jesuit, Father Béla Somfai dies

The plebiscite overwhelmingly concluded that the Community should be responsible to decide on the action that should be taken to resolve the issue regarding Fr. Leon Lajoie’s remains. The Jesuits are grateful to everyone, including the media for their patience while this critical vote was pending. 

The Jesuits of Canada are grateful for the work done by the independent third-party investigator, Brian D. King of the King International Advisory Group (KIAG) into allegations of sexual abuse against the late Fr. Leon Lajoie, SJ.

The Jesuits of Canada wish to express their solidarity with the people of Ukraine, with their Jesuit brothers and all those ministering to forcibly displaced people on the ground in Ukraine, and with the Ukrainian diaspora in Canada.
