Father Charlie Chilufya, SJ, on the economy, Africa and justice
Last month in Toronto, F. Chilufya (economist and Director of the Jesuit Conference's Justice and Environmental Network of Africa and Madagascar) gave a conference entitled “Africa: Tax Justice and the Common Good,” organized by Canadian Jesuits International. He denounced the accounting creativity of large firms which are very expensive for Africa, preventing it from having fair access to food and medication. He also underlined that Canada bears its share of the problem and he encouraged Canadians to care about this issue of moral justice. To read more, click here. A reflection on the sense of grief felt by the public in light of the fire at Notre-Dame de Paris (May 6th)
On May 6th, at Saint Joseph Chapel (Regis College, Toronto), five panelists will reflect upon the meaning of the public grieving caused by the recent fire at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. They will attempt to understand the reaction of loss and worry which mobilized so many people across the world, beyond language, culture and belief. In his prayer intention for the month of May 2019, Pope Francis calls us to pray that the Church in Africa may be the seed of unity among her peoples and a sign of hope for the continent.
