On April 13, Jesuits and
friends gathered for the 10th Annual Jesuit Provincial’s Dinner and honoured
Bishop Emeritus Jean-Louis Plouffe, Betty Bujold, Michael and Barbara McManus,
with the Magis award. These four recipients have gone above and beyond in
improving the lives of those around them.
Bishop Emeritus Jean-Louis
Plouffe of Sault Ste. Marie has been a supporter of the Indigenous Peoples and
the Jesuits since the 1980s and was essential to the Jesuit mission on
Manitoulin Island for years. Betty Bujold has tirelessly fundraised for
the Jesuits and her parish community for years. Her support of Manresa-Jesuit
Spiritual Renewal Centre and Martyrs’ Shrine is legendary. Barbara and
Michael McManus have brought Catholic Mass into Canadian households through
television since the early 1990s.
The annual fundraising
dinner helps raise funds for men in formation, acknowledges Jesuits celebrating
50 years in the Society, and presents the Magis award to noteworthy recipients.
A Mass of thanksgiving took place at The Church of the Good Shepherd, followed
by dinner at Le Parc Dining and Banquet Hall in Thornhill.
