FAQ

What is World Youth Day (WYD)?

WYD is a worldwide gathering of Catholic youth. For more information, please visit the WYD Seoul 2027 website.

What kind of programming will this pilgrimage include?

  • A 1-day retreat in Canada
  • A 2-day pilgrimage in South Korea
  • Magis 2027
  • World Youth Day Seoul 2027

How much does it cost?

The total comes to $4500 CAD, which includes your flights, the registration fees for both Magis, WYD, as well as travel insurance.

If you are traveling from elsewhere into Toronto for the 1-day retreat before we depart for South Korea, our travel agent can help with arranging your flight, but the $4500 does not cover the cost of this extra ticket.

The cost does not include personal spending money.

What is Magis?

Magis is a Jesuit-run pre-WYD programme that is akin to the “Days in the Diocese”.

Spanning 9 days, participants will be further divided into smaller groups and sent off to different 5-day “experiments” with other Magis pilgrims, whose past themes have ranged from pilgrimage, spirituality, arts, ecology and acts of service.

For more information, please visit the Magis website.

Participants will also go through an ongoing Magis formation leading up to the pilgrimage; details TBA.

Will you (the Jesuits) fundraise for us?

Participants are strongly encouraged to fundraise for themselves.

Ideas for fundraising:

  • Draft up a proposal of what you wish to “achieve” in this pilgrimage and present it to your family, friends, and local parish to solicitate their financial support!
  • Initiate your own fundraising activities such as bake sales!

Given that our participants will be interspersed throughout Canada, it will be difficult to have group fundraising activities as if we all come from the same local parish.

Who are the leaders of this WYD-Magis 2027 pilgrimage?

Three Jesuits will serve as leaders for this pilgrimage (with photos):

Fr. Edmund Lo SJ: Vocations director for the Jesuits in Canada. He was the leader of the WYD-Magis 2023 pilgrimage to Portugal.

Fr. Marc-André Veselovsky SJ: Campus ministry at St. Paul’s High School, Winnipeg; parish priest

Abin Mathew SJ: Teacher and campus ministry at Loyola High School, Montréal
