Dear Friends of the Jesuits:

God himself needed a Mother: how much more so do we! Jesus himself gave her to us, from the cross: “Behold your mother!” (Jn 19:27). He said this to the beloved disciple and to every disciple. Our Lady is not an optional accessory: she has to be welcomed into our life. She is the Queen of Peace, who triumphs over evil and leads us along paths of goodness, who restores unity to her children, who teaches us compassion.”

- Pope Francis, January 1, 2019

The Holy Father’s comments on Our Lady, the mother of us all, are particularly applicable as Mother’s Day draws near. Once again this year, the Jesuits of Canada continue our traditional Mother’s Day observance. On Sunday, May 9 at 11:00 a.m., Father Vernon Boyd, SJ, will offer a Mass at Holy Rosary Parish, 175 Emma Street in Guelph, Ontario, for all our mothers. At this Mass, the special women in the lives of our benefactors and friends will be honoured and remembered. Carnations will be placed in the sanctuary to symbolize the love we all share for mothers, grandmothers, and any woman who is special to you and for whom you wish to pray.

On Father’s Day, Sunday, June 20 at 11:00 a.m., Father Boyd will remember those important men in our lives at Mass, whether they are fathers, grandfathers, sons, uncles, or special friends.

We invite you to share with us the names of those women and men who have made a difference in your life and for whom you wish to give thanks on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

The Jesuits are always grateful for your prayers and support, and please be assured of their prayers for you, and for the special people in your life this Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

Sincerely,
Barry J Leidl
