Dear Friends of the Jesuits,

September is upon us, and another summer is in the rear-view mirror. Our Jesuits in formation and senior Jesuits continue to pray and perform works daily so that our world will become a better place for all.

As we all wind back up whether that be in our careers, getting children and grandchildren back to school, or just the speed of our everyday lives, I would ask that everyone consider taking a moment to reflect on how blessed we are. The pandemic continues to be stressful to so many in our community, climate change continues to run havoc, violence in our communities grows, the marginalized are further excluded and our youth are a generation in peril, but all of this said we have our faith and the Jesuits who positively impact these key areas of their mission daily.

The Jesuit Office of Advancement’s mission is to ensure that our Jesuits in formation and those in their senior years are supported and we can only do this through the generosity of our friends.  There are several events and appeals in the coming months that I hope you will consider.

  1. The Scotch Nosing fundraising event is back: November 9,2022 at The Albany Club in Toronto. This is a wonderful event of fun, community, food, and great Scotch. This event sells out fast so please contact the Office of Advancement at 416.481.9154 or supportus@jesuits.ca for all the details, to purchase tickets and become sponsors.
  2. The Jesuit Provincial’s Dinner 2023 is confirmed for April 12, 2023. This celebration of our Jubilarians & Magis award winner will be moving to a new location. Stay tuned for further details regarding tickets, and sponsorships.
  3. November is the month of the Holy Souls, as the Church invites us to pray for our loved ones, relatives, friends, and neighbours who have passed. Please consider a donation in memory of those important people. Their names will be placed in a basket at the altar of the Rene Goupil Chapel, located within the Jesuit infirmary, in Pickering. Throughout November, the Jesuits will pray for your loved ones during their daily Eucharist.
  4. Sacred Heart House, 43 Queen’s Park Crescent East, Toronto, will be the venue for artist Kathy Kranias’,  “Matrilineal Hauntings” exhibit from Sept. 16 to Oct. 7 (Mon-Fri 12-4 pm). This exhibit is open to the public. For more details, please visit https://www.kathykranias.com/matrilineal-hauntings

We are blessed to have our Jesuits, young and old, in the community and in the infirmary. During September, I ask for you to pause and thank God for his grace to protect and support these special men. Please be assured that they are praying for you and those special people in your life.

Thank you on behalf of the Jesuits of Canada for your continued generosity and support.

Respectfully Yours in Christ,

Scott McMaster
