Dear Friends,

During the Marian month of October, the Holy Father invites all the faithful of the world to pray the Holy Rosary daily.  He asks to conclude the recitation of the Rosary with the ancient invocation Sub Tuum Praesidium and with the prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel that he protects us and helps us in the struggle against evil.

The Sub Tuum Praesidium is the earliest known prayer to Mary:

We fly to thy patronage,
O Holy Mother of God;
Despise not our petitions in our necessities,
But deliver us always from all dangers,
O glorious and Blessed Virgin Mary.
Amen.

Our prayers to St. Michael the Archangel are needed as our spiritual battle against evil continues daily.  Our priests in formation and our senior Jesuits pray daily to support this struggle, join them with your prayers.

The Holy Souls campaign has been launched leading to the month of November. The Church invites us to pray for our loved ones, relatives, friends, and neighbours who have passed. Please consider a donation in memory of those important people. Their names will be placed in a basket at the altar of the Rene Goupil Chapel, located within the Jesuit infirmary, in Pickering. Throughout November, the Jesuits will pray for your loved ones during their daily Eucharist.

We ask you for your prayers and support for our Haitian Jesuits. We received the following note on September 18th from the Superior, Fr. Jean Denis Saint-Félix. The premises of Solidarite Fwontalye in Ouanaminthe have been ransacked and the office completely looted.” Thankfully, none of our Jesuits or their community supporters were injured.

The Scotch Nosing fundraising event is back: November 9, 2022, at The Albany Club in Toronto. This is a wonderful event of fun, community, food, and great Scotch. This event sells out fast so please contact the Office of Advancement at 416.481.9154 or supportus@jesuits.ca for all the details, to purchase tickets and become sponsors.

We are blessed to have our Jesuits, young and old, in the community and in the infirmary. During October, I ask for you to pause and thank God for his grace to protect and support these special men. Please be assured that they are praying for you and those special people in your life.

Thank you on behalf of the Jesuits of Canada for your continued generosity and support.

Respectfully Yours in Christ,

Scott McMaster
