Dear Friends,

“And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth.”

We are approaching our third Christmas during this time of pandemic with guarded hope that this one will be more “normal,” with church attendance, family gatherings, gifts, and traditional Christmas dinners.

The first Christmas, of course, showed little resemblance to the Christmases we have come to enjoy and perhaps take for granted. Mary and Joseph were alone, with no family, (a couple of visitors and some farm animals notwithstanding), probably only the most basic of food, and no gift save one which more than made up for the lack of turkey, stuffing, a new toy or gadget — Our Lord and Saviour.

The Jesuits of Canada hope that your Christmas is happy, healthy, and blessed, no matter how your celebrations take place.

As you prepare to celebrate Christmas this year, please consider instead of another item from a store to instead give the gift of a donation in someone’s name to the Jesuits of Canada. Your gift can be directed to a specific appeal such as our brothers in Haiti, or the renovation of our infirmary for our elderly and infirmed Jesuits, or it can go to assist in the formation of a young priest or brother so that they can spread the Good News of Christ’s Kingdom to our wounded world.

As in previous years, the Jesuits of Canada have a new Christmas card for your use. Additional cards are available by contacting us at 416-481-9154. These cards are another way to join with the Jesuits in their prayers for peace and justice in the world, especially during this holy Christmas season.

Thank you for your generous support and prayers during this difficult year. The Jesuits and their staff pray for all of you each day.

Wishing you a very Blessed Christmas,

Barry J. Leidl
Director, Advancement
