Dear Friends of the Jesuits,

It is with a humble and grateful heart that I introduce myself to this wonderful community. Being so very warmly welcomed by many of you has been a fabulous way to begin a new role. The team in Toronto and Montreal have been gracious and patient through this initial month. Thank you all very much.

As August begins, the Ignatian Year celebrating 500 years since St. Ignatius’ conversion concludes. The works he and his followers began continue to this very day. The four universal apostolic preferences of promoting discernment and spiritual exercises, walking with the excluded, caring for our common home and journeying with youth, continue to be the focus of our priests and brothers.

The Covid 19 pandemic has left an unforgettable mark on the entire world and continues to cause havoc. Multiple catastrophic wars continue around the world. A climate and food crisis continues to grow. All of this being said Jesuit priests and brothers continue to pray, minister, and preach the Gospel of Christ. They go where others do not wish to go, perform selfless acts of love and kindness bringing God’s graces and love to new people every day. Their acts of mercy and faith are what the Jesuits have continued to do for over 500 years.

These Jesuits embark on a decade long or more journey of formation and a lifetime of prayer even in their senior years. We need your help to provide the necessary support for this and future generations of Jesuits.

I would ask that you consider making a “Summer 2022 Gift” to the Jesuits of Canada. Every dollar received will go directly to Jesuit formation or the care of our senior Jesuits.

The Jesuits are always grateful for your prayers and support. Please be assured that they are praying for you and those special people in your life.

For all those dedicated supporters and friends of the Jesuits of Canada – I look forward to meeting many of you. Thank you for your continued generosity.

Respectfully Yours In Christ,

Scott McMaster
