When he arrived in Canada in 2015 to begin a master’s degree in theology, nothing prepared him to enter the Society of Jesus; on the contrary! And yet, he has just pronounced his first vows and is now a scholastic.

How do we reach out to people in a pandemic? How do we respond to their spiritual needs and promote a contemplative life while gatherings are banned? Many Jesuit spirituality centres have turned towards the Internet during the COVID-19 lockdown in order to continue serving people. They have succeeded in accompanying retreatants at a distance and inspiring other groups to offer Ignatian workshops online. This change has not only helped them to engage with the people they normally serve but has also allowed them to offer their services to larger and more diverse groups.

However, as Frantz Georges S.J. reminds us, “the spiritual experience is fundamental in the lives of all Christians.” What impact, therefore, has the pandemic had on this fundamental aspect of faith in the Jesuit Province of Canada?
On May 24, Matthew Livingstone, SJ was ordained to the priesthood and Gregory Kennedy, SJ, Joseph Koczera, SJ, and Boniface Mbouzao, SJ to the diaconate, at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Toronto. The Most Reverend Terrence Prendergast, SJ, Archbishop of Ottawa presided at the ordination liturgy.

The Board of Governors of Regis College is pleased to announce the appointment of Rev. Scott Lewis, SJ as Dean of Regis College, the Jesuit Faculty in The Toronto School of Theology at the University of Toronto. Fr. Lewis begins his five-year term as Dean on May 1, 2014.
Provincial’s Dinner honours Knights of Columbus and Jesuit Jubilarians
On April 9, the Jesuits English Canada Province hosted its 8th Annual Jesuit Provincial's Dinner, in Toronto honouring the Knights of Columbus, Ontario, with the Magis Award and five Jesuit Jubilarians, men who have been in the Society of Jesus for 50 years.
