A weekend food retreat

You are what you eat…not a very controversial statement. Experience shows that a steady diet of junk food will make you feel pretty trashy, whereas a feeling of vitality comes from eating a good amount of fresh fruits and vegetables. Beyond this common sense, however, is a growing awareness that you are also how we produce what you eat.

In a world where global agriculture can heighten gaps between rich and poor, farmer and consumer, Earth and supermarket, consuming food has broad ethical, political, ecological and spiritual consequences.

This weekend retreat will mix together the joy of cooking and eating together along with reflective, critical thinking about the winners and losers of our various, current food systems. Retreatants will explore how discernment, courage and community are needed for eating well today.

Facilitated by Loyola House’s Kitchen Manager, Sheri Bishop (co-founder of With the Grain), Greg Kennedy (Ignatius spiritual director), and Ignatius Farm’s Education Coordinator, Lisa Conroy.
