Dear Friends:

I am pleased to invite you to the Annual Jesuit Provincial’s Dinner on April 24, 2019. Although this is the 13th Jesuit Provincial’s Dinner, it is actually the first for the new united Jesuits of Canada/Jésuites du Canada Province.

At this year’s dinner, we will honour Basilian Father Thomas Rosica, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Salt and Light Catholic Media Foundation. A well-known and respected biblical scholar, lecturer, speaker, retreat preacher and author, Fr. Rosica is fluent in several languages and has served the Church at local, national and international levels. For his work as an international Catholic communicator, he has received a multitude of awards and recognition. From 2008 – 2015 he held senior roles in the Vatican including the English-speaking Media Attaché of the Synod of Bishops and Consultor to the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, to name a few.

Fr. Rosica has referred to himself as a proud alumnus of Jesuit institutions: Regis College, the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and Jerusalem and has stated that his life, formation and ministry have been influenced by the Society of Jesus. A friend to the Jesuits, Fr. Rosica received a Master of Divinity and Bachelor of Sacred Theology in 1985 and returned to Regis College to receive an honorary degree in 2018. He has always supported the work of the Society of Jesus including serving as a senior advisor on the Jesuits in English Canada’s Communications Committee and encouraging Jesuit scholastics to train at Salt and Light TV.

This year’s jubilarians are Fr. David Creamer, SJ and Fr. Ovey Mohammed, SJ. Both Fathers Creamer and Mohammed have enjoyed long and distinguished careers in higher education and have served as professors and administrators in several universities and colleges. Father Creamer is currently Superior of the Canadian Martyrs’ Jesuit Community in Toronto, while Father Mohammed is Professor Emeritus of Systematic Theology at Regis College.

The celebration will begin with Mass at a new location, St. Elizabeth of Hungary, the Jesuit parish located at 432 Sheppard Avenue East at 5:00 pm. Following the Mass, there will be a pre-dinner reception at 6:30 pm, which will give you an opportunity to meet some of the Jesuits you have supported over the years. Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. As in past years, the reception and dinner will be held at Le Parc Dining and Banquet Hall, 8432 Leslie St., Thornhill, Ontario.

The cost of the evening is $150.00 per person (with a tax receipt of $100.00 for a single ticket) or $1,200.00 for a table of eight (with a tax receipt of $800.00 for a table). The proceeds from the dinner will go towards funding a scholarship for a Jesuit in formation. To order your ticket(s), please complete and mail the enclosed reply before March 15, 2019. The cheque or money order should be made payable to the Jesuits of Canada. Should you wish to pay by credit card, please see the enclosed form or contact us.

The Provincial’s Dinner has been a success each year, mainly because it brings together many friends and supporters of the Jesuits and the Jubilarians. It is a wonderful opportunity to renew old friendships and make new acquaintances.

I look forward to seeing you at our celebration!
