A Canadian Indigenous Man Delegated to the Pre-synodal Meeting in the Spring of 2018

Youth meeting

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops published the names of two young adults who were delegates to the pre-synodal meeting that took place this past March 19 – 24; namely, Emilie Callan and Jason Genaille-Dustyhorn, both 21. This meeting focussed on the theme of young people of faith and vocational discernment and brought together 300 delegates from all over the world, said the Catholic Register.

We point out that Jacob Jason Genaille-Dustyhorn is a native Cree of Saskatchewan, who is on side with the efforts towards reconciliation with indigenous peoples that the Society of Jesus has undertaken in the past several years.

Born of a Christian mother, Mr. Genaille-Dustyhorn does not see himself first as a Catholic, but rather is guided by Cree spirituality. His presence at the pre-synodal meeting is in step with the Pope’s desire to bring together Catholics and non-Catholics, believers and non-believers to reflect together, Grandin Media reports.

This theme of young people is also highlighted in the latest bulletin of Canadian Jesuits International.
